Pink trees and lush green grass announce spring at the waterfront. Sunlight streams through the city to the west, sparkling on steel and glass. But overhead hangs a heavy gray remnant of winter; the dark threat of ice and freezing rain. Beyond the bridge the sun plays on the flowers, but ominous waves rush choppily downriver, marring the peaceful view. Stepping off the bus I am quickly chilled to the bone; zipping up, I battle the wind toward home as the sun blinds me in bright cheery contrast to the temperature.
