Ray Bradbury credits his success to a thousand words a day. I tried it once, and found it dragging. A thousand words on anything, or nothing, tend to ramble, to pontificate, to serve nothing.
What about a thousand words on something?
Another trick of Bradbury’s was his lists. He wrote down titles, just random word associations sometimes, that occurred to him in the course of life. Then he would pick one and write the story to go with it.
Consider the reason I write. I have read beautiful, magical things; I wish to emulate them. I want to make magic and beauty, to put them back into the world, to stir other hearts and minds as mine have been stirred. So if each day, I write a thousand words on magic… what becomes possible?
This I will discover.
I make no promises as to readability – except perhaps to promise none – but I will post each day’s effort here, and see what happens.
