Aftermath

What matters pain
the agony of grief
the ache of failure
of remorse
depression, sadness
misery
hollow emptiness.
Life, in all its stubbornness
goes on
and so must you
lost, yes, and alone
a world of pain before you.
Relentlessly the lungs draw breath
the heart beats, inexorable
someday you will rise
and live again

but not today.

Reflection

Who are you, girl-child
almost-woman

Who are you
human, more than human
sometimes less
worthless
and yet invaluable

Who are you
daughter, lover, friend
student, teacher
nothing
anything.

In you I see myself
more than me, and less
courage, compassion
faith, rejection
single-minded fascination

Who are you
and who am I?

Dumbstruck

Words fail
insufficient to impart
the epic
sweeping
grandeur
colors, inexpressible
depth
range
beauty
terror
all nameless, unutterable.

Would I could capture these things!
save them for all time, within me
present always to the vastness
the awe
indescribable.
Without words I am lost
helpless, impotent
flailing, slighted,
misunderstood.
I have been places
seen things
stood open-mouthed in wonder
in glory
and no one will ever know.

Affliction

I am a creature made of flaws
no hope of perfection.
I am an animal
slave to my senses
propelled by fear.
I am but human
selfish
thoughtless
fickle and unkind.

I am a creature made of flesh
born to struggle
existing just to die.
I am an animal
eat, sleep, work
and try to love.
I am but human
strive though I may for more
I do my best
and that
is all
I have.

How’s this for a cool event?

http://authorsinpubs.wordpress.com/2012/04/15/hello-world/

A bunch of authors gathered over drinks and read our stuff. A bit self-indulgent, perhaps, but the audience didn’t seem to mind. Did I mention drinks? What a great concept! In addition to the dozen or so authors, there was a great band playing and a jewelry and yarn artist displaying her wares. A good opportunity for all kinds.

If you happen to have come here from there, first of all, thanks! that’s brilliant! and second of all, here are links to the stuff you heard last night.

If you didn’t, perhaps you should check it out next month.
